T-Mobile nabs HTC's Touch HD2, schedules release for November
Posted Nov 2nd 2009 7:58AM by Tim Stevens
WinMo folks, we wouldn't blame you for getting a bit of Android envy after last week's DROID onslaught, but if there's one thing that could make people pine for your OS it's HTC's HD2, and T-Mobile has just confirmed it's coming on November 9 -- a mere weekend after Moto's new hotness hits Verizon. Mind you, there is some confusion going on here, as the picture on T-Mo's site is of the old Touch HD, not the HD2 we met and loved, and the mention of "loads of applications to download from Android Market" is particularly perplexing. But, we've been told to go ahead and blame a bumbling marketeer rather than to expect some sort of cross-platform app marketplace love fest -- groovy as that may sound.
Update: We've also just learned that HTC is going to officially launch the HD2 on November 4 ahead of a November 11 release elsewhere. We're not entirely sure what there is left to learn about the thing, but we're always game for another press event.
Update 2: Just to clarify things, this is T-Mobile UK. Also, as many have pointed out in comments, we're now thinking the "09" above means 2009, not November 9, which likely points to a November 11 release. Surely you can swallow that DROID envy for another two days, yeah?

So the picture is wrong? Because that isn't the HTC HD2. If it true that T-mo will get the HTC HD2 then the Droud is going to take a big hit in it's sales. This is a big winner for WinMo and T-Mobile. I hope this rumor is true. I was wondering if this device would drop soon. Previous reports had it coming next year second quarter.

How about putting UK in the title lol.
JYL @ Nov 2nd 2009 8:41AM
Sorry a bit confused..this is coming out for T-Mobile USA? T-mobile UK? T-mobile Germany? To the above poster..umm this will not affect the droids sales at all..in the end this is still a winmo phone no matter how much HTC dresses it up. Now if HTC used this killer hardware for an android phone with sense..wow that would have been something to affect the Droid's sales.

Just imagine this was true... I mean, it would simply be great if HD2 was running Androïd...! I'd buy it immediatly and wouldn't leave the house for a month, just to play with it ;-)

it's funny that every little piece of information is wrong in this description. the size of the hd2's screen is 4.3", not 3.8 as they claim.
DocAW @ Nov 2nd 2009 9:16AM
I am a bit confused. It also mentioned android market. Could it be that this is the HTC android handset and T-Mobile was just putting something out there as a placeholder to let people know something was coming?

Well this particular one they are speaking about the UK T-Mobile version BUT it IS coming to the T-Mobile USA Q1 2010 which I for one cannot WAIT for.
nyuhsuk @ Nov 2nd 2009 9:35AM
Can we please make the distinction between which T-Mobile any news is referring to?
Tim's writing seems to indicate that this is in direct competition with the Verizon DROID/Sholes, which in turn makes people believe it's for T-Mobile USA... only to clicky clicky to find it pushes out to T-Mobile UK...
A loud sigh heard across America...
MBN @ Nov 2nd 2009 11:14AM
I would like to add: Engadget writers should keep with the previously-stated policy that if T-Mobile is used in the title, it refers to T-Mobile US, and if it is a T-Mobile market outside the US, the title will say so.
Douglas @ Nov 2nd 2009 9:38AM
So is it the real HD2 or are they releasing the old one and calling it the new one?
Kane @ Nov 2nd 2009 9:50AM
Also think that 'November 09' is referring to 'November 2009', not the 9th of November
DocAW @ Nov 2nd 2009 9:51AM
Call it a big hunch, but perhaps T-Mobile USA is getting Android and T-Mobile UK is getting a WinMo version on the same date? The T-Mobile USA site is the site with the above image about android. They will need to get an android handset out this month.
Kane @ Nov 2nd 2009 9:52AM
And the coming soon link on this page forwards to the HTC Touch HD2, so i assume its just a stream of errors

So no US release?

Wow, way to totally confuse the hell out of everyone.
Sgt. Cell @ Nov 2nd 2009 12:31PM
Will the real HD2 please stand up (and be released on T-Mobile USA) as soon as possible. Thank you.
andy @ Nov 2nd 2009 1:01PM
This isnt true..HD2 has a 4.3 inch screen..and Htc specifically said it would not be running andriod..
choffy21 @ Nov 2nd 2009 4:51PM
Well the T-Mobile UK site has fixed it. The picture is now an HD2, says WinMo 6.5 and a "massive 4.3" HD touchscreen".
At least they fixed the error.
Ralph @ Nov 2nd 2009 6:56PM
Why is a windows mobile phone downloading apps from Android's market?
Reggie @ Nov 3rd 2009 3:05AM
This phone is brought ...its $800 out of contract but i'm just tired of my iphone...3 years and its as common now as the moto razr was ..I almost feel embarrassed pulling it out in public
