T-Mobile 7.2Mbps HSPA rolling out now?

Reports are coming in, by and large it seems via Android and Me, that T-Mobile's begun its rollout of its 7.2Mbps HSPA network for some extra speedy mobile browsing. We've done some testing in the listed cities, notably Chicago and New York, but so far are coming up with the usual, mundane speeds. It'd certainly make up for yesterday's snafu (almost), but at this point we're classifying as unconfirmed. Anyone else having better luck?Read - 1MB mobile speed test

Ok, tried posting from the phone but that failed. . .ah, the irony.
Hollywood, CA, full 3G signal, which means I'm outdoors in the special one spot where that happens in L.A.
The average speed was 5000kbps It hit over 6k once and in the 3k a couple times. But out of 15 tests on a rebooted phone it averaged about 4900kbps

AT&T and Verizon Wireless its time for you to wake up and fix up your speeds.
I agree you have the iPhone/Droid and what not in your line up, but if you ain't got the network to handle the data being used by these devices, you aint got nothing. This is true, if you test your iPhone for instance in downtown where all the corporate employees are sneaking from their cubicals and under the desk facebook/twitter w.e news. The speeds there are like 400-500 if you go out in the country and hopefully you have 3g in AT&T, you get a whoping 1.2mbps. With verizon its even worse cuz their speeds are tops at 756ish.

Hmm, I might withdraw the observation. . .I can't get anything else to agree with mobilespeedtest.com
The speedtest app Android and Me recommended returns 500-600kbps consistently. Is mobilespeedtest multiplying everything by 10?

I'm not sure if my speeds are ACCURATE with this test, but I generated a 3 Meg completely random binary file, placed it on a server overseas where I can get about 4Mbps downloading it to my PC via FiOS. I then downloaded it over an FTP program onto my phone. It seemed to take about 1 minute to download, which I calculate to be about 0.4Mbps.
Looking at the method used by MobileSpeedTest, it seems to generate "." over and over again in an HTML comment field. To me this is a HIGHLY invalid test, as this can easily be experienced by the simple means of text compression. Seriously, how hard is it to compress 3 megs of "." over and over again over a network? Even dial-up modems got faster speeds from text compression.
I'm not sure if the bandwidth of the 3G or the technology employed will still max out at 3.6Mbps even with text compression or not. So take it however you want to, but MobileSpeedTest's test just uses repetitive text. And most bandwidth intensive functions on the Internet these days do not involve just text.

After Thought: This could just mean the G1 doesn't have HSPA+ support. But I'm not banking on that. By now I'm sure T-Mobile would have said something.
Also while I am not in Philadelphia, I am in the general suburbs in a town bordering the city along the "main line" section of the area.

I'd love to have this, but in my area T-Mobile still has mainly GPRS with some places w/ EDGE, so I doubt I will ever see this... Its sad when both Verizon and AT&T have 3G here but T-Mobile is still struggling to get EDGE rolled out in my area.

The speed test link provided with this article is not trustworthy. On my G1, running the JF 1.51 ROM & using Dolphin Browser- I get drastically different results when switching the user agent between Android and Iphone. Iphone results equal other speed test site results and Android results are about ten times as fast as stated above.

Im not sure is this is accurate Im in NYC and im getting like close to 5000 kbps

T-Mobile just launched 3G here a few weeks ago. I played with a couple active 3G phones at the store: The Moto Cliq and the HTC Touch Pro 2. Both phones connected via 3G kept getting between 150 kbit/sec and 200 kbit/sec on DSLReports' mobile speed test. I have been getting similar speeds on T-Mobile's EDGE in the same market. What's the problem?
I have used DSLReports for years. Their mobile test is very simple, and seemingly accurate for down-link speeds.

I call BS. I've been running speed tests all day in Chicago on my G1 and haven't seen anything but the usual mediocrity. Xtremelabs Speedtest (Android app) hasn't broken 400 kbps and the DSL Reports mobile speed test has been showing 550 - 800 kbps.
