After weeks of buildup the day is here: the
DROID (and his little HTC buddy, the
DROID Eris) is now for sale on Verizon's website. As expected Motorola's new flagship will set you back $200 after $100 online discount and two-year commitment while his underhyped Eris little bro is a penny shy of $100 after the same discount and contractual prostration. If you're looking to shed your contractual duties then you can hand over $560 in non-Android green for the option of going month-to-month.

Good luck as those trying to upgrade to the DROID have been experiencing issues with the process since the site went live. I've been dealing with this for over an hour trying to order a unit.
gfacekilla @ Nov 6th 2009 1:41AM
It appears Verizon is only allowing new customers to purchase the droid. If you are an existing customer looking to upgrade the phone is not listed under the phone upgrade pages. What give???
Roya @ Nov 6th 2009 12:04PM
Mine was on the upgrade online. $100 instant savings, $50 credit for new every two renewal, and $149.99 with free shipping.
VABeachBoy @ Nov 7th 2009 3:46PM
I was able to renew at the Verizon store. I paid $99. $299 - $100 rebate - $100 "new every two"
Nigga @ Nov 6th 2009 2:13AM
Why don't you idiots just go to Best Buy Mobile. Easier, Faster, No mail-in-rebates.
gfacekilla @ Nov 6th 2009 2:17AM
You're obviously pretty stupid. allow me to enlighten you, when you order online no rebate, no waiting, and no cash out of pocket, period. It gets charged to your account. you big dummy....
MIke @ Nov 6th 2009 2:29AM
@Gfacekilla.. Best But has no rebate and no waiting you idiot!! You can go in and get it in the morning. You will have to wait until saturday if you order online dumbass!! YOU HAVE BEEN ENLIGHTENED!!
gfacekilla @ Nov 6th 2009 2:36AM
@mike...i detest bestbuy and all they represent and again for those who can't or won't read and understand, the balance will be charged to your verizon account which means no cash outlay.......understand stupid?
VABeachBoy @ Nov 7th 2009 3:51PM
best buy does not honor "new every two" -- at least mine didn't
wasd @ Nov 6th 2009 3:01AM

MIke @ Nov 6th 2009 3:02AM
@gfacekilla Hmm, so forgo the payment now and wait till the large bill comes to you or pay up front and not have to worry about it?? You are a moron...If money is that tight then why the hell are you looking to get the DROID!!
Thomas @ Nov 6th 2009 4:38AM
Just managed to order one after about a 30 minute process of the site lagging. Servers can't handle all the orders or maybe just slow? Haha it finally went through so I'm all set for the phone to arrive Monday. @Nigga Ordering online allows you get a waived activation fee ($36) from now till Monday, free overnight shipping, and the ability to charge it to your bill. That paired with not having to wait in line is plenty of reason for me not to go to a store
Matt Smylie @ Nov 6th 2009 5:05AM
Hmm, I'm on the site now, and can't find where it'll let me charge it to my account. Only options I see are debit/credit card or gift card.
Any ideas?
mulda71 @ Nov 6th 2009 7:22AM
guys, just call and order it over the phone... but you wont get it until monday... there's no saturday shipping. If you want it now you have to go in and get it.... best buy cant do the early yearly upgrade as far as i know, so you can only go BB if you are new or you are due for your 2 year upgrade....
i just want to know what happened to the "15 more handsets in 2009" and HTC passion coming out black friday or mid december. That info line has gone awfully cold.... suspiciously so. I think they're holding off while the moto droid has his day.
Joel @ Nov 6th 2009 7:48AM
I'm not seeing the 'media dock' anywhere on the Verizon or DROID sites.. only the 'car dock'. Has anyone else found the media dock?
Mat @ Nov 7th 2009 3:53PM
I went yesterday morning to the store. They only had two media docks when they opened, I got one of them. The sales people were pretty annoyed that they only got two for the launch.
MrM @ Nov 6th 2009 1:48PM
I ordered mine this morning. no problems, unlike last time i ordered online. adding the smartphone data plan was a breeze. i dont have to worry about getting it or not since its on its way. really didnt wanna bother going to bestbuy. i do that thing called work so i have no time.
Captain @ Nov 8th 2009 7:43AM
This is the best phone i've ever had. Droid Eris! for 100$ you just cant beat it.
Everything is so fast. No Lag. Smooth HTC interface. Great browser, Google maps - Train times/Bus Routes, multi touch on web-pages, Battery Lasts ALLLLLLLL day (: Did I mention the Endless AP's. I just downloaded Pandora and it doesn't drain my battery like other phones used to... and to think android 2.0 may be coming... If it does - Great! if it doesn't It really doesn't Matter. this phone does it all....
